Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, Tenure-Track

Responsibilities: The University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Visual and Theatre Arts invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. To support the current needs, future changes, and growth of the department, we are looking for an experienced, versatile, and innovative teacher and designer with a breadth of experience and knowledge in a broad range of graphic design techniques. Potential courses taught may include Graphic Design I and II, Page Layout, Advertising, Illustration, Photography, UX/UI, Video, and Animation.   The candidate should have experience coaching students in professional behavior and readiness, through internships, and academic advising to keep students on track towards graduation. The candidate is expected to maintain an active record of scholarly and creative activity and service to the university.

Studio Equipment: The graphic design studio is equipped with 16 iMac student workstations, 2 didicated scanner stations, and the Adobe Creative Suite. There is an attached photo studio with standard backdrops and lighting setup. An auxiliary lab is available next door containing 6 iMac wokstations and 6 Dell PC workstations equipped to run 3D Modeling software.

Qualifications: A terminal degree (MFA, MDes, PhD in Design) in Graphic Design, Visual Communication Design, Visual Studies, or related field. The ideal candidate has a background, education or experience in Graphic Design, Digital Arts, or Communications. Demonstrated professional design experience (client-driven or self-initiated) with a focus on creative practice or research encompassing areas such as graphic design foundations, UX/UI design, motion or video. One (1) year teaching experience including graduate teaching experience preferred.

The University: The University of Tennessee at Martin is a primary campus in the University of Tennessee System. The campus is located in Northwest Tennessee approximately 125 miles north of Memphis and 150 miles west of Nashville. The University of Tennessee at Martin has a combined graduate and undergraduate enrollment of approximately 7,000 students. The emphasis is solidly on excellence in undergraduate instruction. The Department of Visual and Theatre Arts: The department currently has ten full-time faculty members who support the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program with areas of emphasis in Visual Art, Art Education, Dance Education, Graphic Design, and Theatre and the Bachelor of Art in Arts in Studio, Dance, Graphic Design, Theatre Tech and Acting. There are approximately 110 majors in the BFA and BAA programs.
